Manchester City all but secured their place in next season’s Champions League with an emphatic 3-1 win against West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday night.
As a result of that victory, Pep Guardiola’s men go into Sunday’s showdown with Watford knowing that a point will be enough to guarantee a top four finish, while victory will ensure that the men from Manchester end the season in third place.
Questions were asked of City’s mental strength after they stumbled to a 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough at the end of April, but Guardiola’s charges have defied their doubters in emphatic style since. Manchester City have won each of their three Premier League matches in May, scoring 10 goals and conceding just two.
As such, the visitors are strong favourites to maintain momentum this weekend and Paddy Power go just 4/11 (1.36) that City are victorious at Vicarage Road, with 15/4 (4.75) that the match remains deadlocked at the end of 90 minutes.
Despite preserving their Premier League status, Watford have endured a disappointing campaign and it was confirmed on Wednesday that manager Walter Mazzarri will leave his post after Sunday’s match. The Hornets can be backed at 17/2 (9.50) to ensure that the 55-year-old Italian’s tenure as boss ends with a win.
No fewer than 28 of Watford’s 40 Premier League points this season have been won at Vicarage Road and, in fact, the Hornets have lost just two of their last nine matches on their own patch in all competitions.
That record, though, cannot mask Watford’s woeful form in recent weeks. Mazzarri’s men have been beaten in six of their last seven matches in the Premier League failing to find the net in five of those losses.
There have been at least three goals scored in each of Manchester City’s last four fixtures, as well as in each of the last five games at Pep Guardiola’s team have won. There is, therefore, potential for goals to flow once again here and there is 8/13 (1.62) that at least three goals are scored on Sunday afternoon.
Another high-scoring victory for Manchester City, however, is a selection that could offer decent value for punters. Guardiola’s charges are brimming with belief and the men from Manchester can be backed at 5/6 (1.83) to bring down the curtain on their campaign with a goal-laden victory at Vicarage Road on Sunday afternoon.
