The Ghana striker was unable to make a difference in his team’s defeat to Rennes in Ligue 1 on Saturday night

Abdul Majeed Waris earned a yellow card late in the game as Lorient lost their 17th game of the season in a 1-0 defeat to Rennes at the Roahzon Park.

It was the 21st start for the Ghana striker out of a total 25 appearances in a season where he has scored seven goals already.

But it was to end in another defeat for the visitors who remain rooted at the bottom of the Ligue 1 table with 22 points.

Ivorian Giovanni Sio scored for Rennes early on 19 minutes and the hosts kept their advantage throughout to secure the three points on offer.

Ghanaian Alhassan Wakaso was an 85th minute substitute for Francois Bellugou, his seventh overall appearance for the season.

The victory moved Rennes to eighth spot on 36 points.
