The 26-year-old feels he deserves a place in the Black Stars’ latest squad

Ghana international Mubarak Wakaso has lamented his omission from Ghana’s 30-man squad announced for upcoming games.

The Granada midfielder was one of a few high-profile players missing from the team that is set to take on Ethiopia, Mexico and the USA in a triple-header of matches.

Although coach Kwesi Appiah did not give any reason for the exclusion of the 26-year-old, reports say the Tamale-born’s lack of club action towards the end of the season may have been the cause.

“He [Appiah] has invited some players who are warming the bench in their team, but I have been enjoying consistent football at my club, yet I couldn’t get a call-up into the team,”Wakaso told Silver FM.

“I understand he has called some players on why they were not invited into the team, but I haven’t received any phone call from Kwesi Appiah.

“When I saw the list I wasn’t worried, because everybody has his own destiny.

“After all it was Kwesi Appiah who gave me my debut Black Stars call.”

Wakaso made 11 La Liga appearances for El Grana, scoring once, during his half-season loan from Greek outfit Panathinaikos.

He has gone to represent Ghana at the 2013, 2015 and 2017 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments as well as the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.

Goalkeeper Razak Brimah, midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Crystal Palace defender Jeffrey Schlupp and Chicago Fire attacker David Accam are the other major casualties in Appiah’s 30-man squad, which features a host of new names and seven locally-based players.
