The Northern Blues deputy manager has conceded they cannot retain the trophy won last season

Wa All Stars assistant coach Abubakar Believer has admitted that his side cannot retain the Ghana Premier League trophy they won last season after series of uninspiring performances.

The Northern Blues' 2-1 defeat to Asante Kotoko on Saturday means they have picked only six victories out of 19 games including seven defeats and six stalemates. They currently sit 11th position with 24 points, 13 points behind leaders Wafa.

"To be honest, the title has eluded Wa All Stars. We cannot defend it because our performance hasn't been the best but I think if we put our pieces together, we can get a top four finish this season," Believer said.

"We are working hard every day to finish the season very well. For the ultimate, it is impossible for us this season since a lot of things haven't worked according to our plans", he added.

Captain of All Stars, Hafiz Adams, believes they have been unfortunate with injuries this season since they have to rely on inexperienced players for majority of their games.

"We started the campaign on a bad note because most of our players got injured even before the season started. About eight of our regular starters were not around when the league started," Hafiz said.

"So we've found it very tough this season relying on new players. It took us some time to get back but others have opened up the gap. However, we have 11 matches to go so we have not given up on other targets if not the title," he added.

All Stars will welcome relegation-threatened Tema Youth to the Malik Jabir Park on July 9 when the league returns from a one-week break.
