Ugandan goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya set to join Kakamega Homeboyz

Former Sofapaka goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya could join Kenyan Premier League side  Kakamega Homeboyz.

The Ugandan custodian's otherwise good relationship with the club, previously ended after the two parties failed to agree on a new deal.

Kigonya, who scored four goals last season for Batoto Ba Mungu, all from the spot, is said to be closing in on a deal with Homeboyz though Sofapaka are yet to give him the release letter, almost a month after he terminated his contract with the former Kenyan champions.

According to sources close to the club, Kigonya, who is currently in Uganda could link up with Homeboyz next where he is poised to sign a one-year contract, if everything goes according to the script.

“The only thing delaying the deal is the letter from Sofapaka,” said a close at Homeboyz who did not want to be named.

“It is so unfortunate that Sofapaka would want to determine the future of a player whom they released not because of any other reason but because the two parties could not agree on improved terms,” added our source.

Goal has since established that Sofapaka okayed Homeboyz deal even though the club allegedly refused to allow the Ugandan custodian to join Tusker, AFC Leopards or Posta Rangers who had shown interest in his services.
