The Indian national U17 football team, currently participating in friendly ties accross Europe as part of an exposure tour, were upended by Sporting Clube de Portugal's (CP) U7 squad in Portugal, on Tuesday, 9th May.
A match that witnessed a 30 minute delayed kick-off saw the fledglings from the subcontinent take the game to their opponents, with an opening carved out in the initial 10 minutes only for a goalline clearance to play dampner to their away side's excellent start.
However, in an evenly balanced game, the Lions cubs broke the young Tigers' defense with a well executed move right on the brink of half-time.
Nevertheless, the push-back never curtailed the Indians' endeavour and they hit back right after half-time to level the tallies thanks to Aniket Jadhav. Barely five minutes later Ussumane regained the advantage for the Greens, with a quick finish.
Luis Matos' juniors had the perfect opportunity to level the scoreline when Sporting conceded a penalty. Alas, the assured Jadhav fluffed his shot completely and the chance went abegging. The match ended with no way back for the Blues, who tasted defeat yet again on their European sojourn.
