Tottenham Hotspur v West Bromwich Albion: Spurs to condemn luckless Baggies to another defeat

Tottenham Hotspur welcome West Bromwich Albion to Wembley in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs suffered a painful 2-0 defeat at the hands of North London rivals Arsenal last weekend but Mauricio Pochettino's charges showed terrific character to come from behind to beat Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League in midweek, and the former Southampton boss will be hoping for more of the same from his side when they take on the beleaguered Baggies.

Tottenham had a difficult start to the season at their temporary home, failing to win any of their first three league fixtures at the venue, but since then they have been winners in five of their last six home matches in all competitions - a sequence of results that includes a hugely impressive 3-1 victory over reigning European champions Real Madrid.

It is no surprise, therefore, that Spurs are strong favourites at just 13/50 (1.26) with Betsafe to beat the Baggies.

West Brom are enduring a wretched run of results at present with a chastening 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Chelsea marking an 11th consecutive match without victory, and also signalling the end of Tony Pulis' reign at the Hawthorns, for the 59-year-old manager was sacked by the club on Monday.

Gary Megson returned to the club in the summer as Pulis' assistant and will take temporary charge of the team, meaning he will be in the dugout for Saturday's match; the Baggies can be backed at a chunky 27/2 (14.50) with Betsafe to claim a famous victory, while the same firm go 107/20 (6.35) that West Brom pick up a precious point at Wembley.

The Baggies have drawn a blank in four of their last five Premier League defeats and their lack of firepower is a serious cause for concern ahead of this fixture, for Spurs have conceded just nine goals in their 12 league matches so far this season.

Tottenham, in theory, should have no such worries, but Pochettino's men have scored just one goal in their last three league matches and have only netted more than once in just one of their six Premier League games at Wembley this term.

There have been goals at both ends in just one of Spurs' last six league outings and Betsafe offer 57/100 (1.57) that either side fails to find the net this weekend, but better value could lie in backing Pochettino's team to win to nil; the 41/50 (1.82) selection would have landed in five of Spurs' seven league wins so far this season.
