Torrealba and Khune back new Kaizer Chiefs striker Paez to shine

On Thursday, Amakhosi unveiled their Venezuelan striker after he signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the club earlier this week

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Jose Torrealba, who also hails from Venezuela, believes that Gustavo Paez will do well at the club.

“Gustavo is a good striker,” Torrealba told the club’s website.

Torrealba played with Paez in the 2013/14 season at Deportivo Lara in Venezuela.

The former played for the Amakhosi from 2008 to 2011 following his move from Mamelodi Sundowns.

“He’s quick and more mature than when I played with him in 2013. He played in several countries. Experiencing such a variety of cultures is very important. I am sure he will do well at Chiefs,” he said.

Club captain Itumeleng Khune weighed on the praise for Paez, saying he will bring a new dimension to the team.

“Gustavo is mobile. He is quick and he has been scoring in the friendlies we played. He will bring another dimension to the team,” Khune said.

Paez is thrilled to have joined the club and marvels at the club’s supporters citing that they are simply amazing.

“I have already seen some television footage of Kaizer Chiefs games. It’s a big club, one of the best in Africa, and the supporters are simply amazing.

“They create such a great ambiance in the stadium. I am looking forward to play in front of the fans,” Paez said.

The 26-year-old will wear jersey number 28 and will possibly make his debut when the Amakhosi host the relegation troubled Free State Stars on Tuesday.
