The South Africa international was struggling with an ankle injury prior to the titanic clash and he was scheduled to be re-assessed, but ultimately, he missed the game.
A source close to Matlaba has reportedly told The Citizen that the player was not selected for the match as the club felt that he was not giving his all.
“The club feels that his mind is not focused and the reason for that is because he is not happy,” The Citizen source said.
“Festival (Matlaba’s nickname) doesn’t feel appreciated. He has been giving his all for the club, yet these days he is often blamed whenever Pirates lose a game," the source continued.
"He loves Pirates and the fact that he is blamed for the club losses, he feels that if that’s the case then he needs to move somewhere else,” the source concluded.
The two-footed defender, who is one of the senior players at Pirates, has played 18 games this season - including four Cup matches.
He is yet to feature for Bucs under new head coach Kjell Jonevret, who was appointed last month.
