Sunshine Stars’ Rock Durand and Kehinde Adeyemi will play no part in the club’s Saturday test game against Ikorodu United as they have only recently returned from thigh and knee injuries respectively.
The Owena Whales are free from topflight action this weekend as their tie with MFM has been postponed to February 28 because of the Olukoya Boys’ involvement in the Caf Champions League where they have a home tie with AS Real Bamako of Mali.
Coach Duke Udi while giving update on his team ahead of the friendly match with the Nigeria National League side said that Durand and Adeyemi are improving tremendously but that it would take a while before they regain match fitness, hence their decision to allow them have enough light training before they are steadily eased back to the main team.
“We have a friendly match with Ikorodu United. It is to prepare us ahead of our next league tie with Enyimba in Calabar. We did not want to waste the weekend even though we are off league duties because of the unavailability of our opponents, MFM due to Caf inter-club competition,” Udi told Goal.
“We want to use the test game to gauge the level of our players’ preparation. We are yet to recover from the crushing defeat to Plateau United and we need as many games as possible to help us regain our confidence level.
“Rock (Durand) and Kehinde (Adeyemi) have not been available for selection for quite some time now because of injuries. We are happy that they have resumed light training but I can’t tell how long it will take them to recover before joining the main team.
“We will keep on monitoring their progress and we will be in constant touch with the team doctor who will advise us on when appropriate for them to start real training."
