The Owena Whales defender says his side will not be demoted from the topflight following their home victory over the Savannah Scorpions in Ijebu Ode

Sunshine Stars' Sikiru Alimi insists his side will not crash out of the Nigeria Professional Football League after a 2-1 win over Gombe United in Ijebu Ode.

Alimi's goal plus Dayo Ojo's strike helped Akin Olowookere's side overcame the Savannah Scorpions despite Austin Oladapo's late strike for the visitors at Dipo Dina Stadium.

And the defender believes his teammates have the capacity to keep up their winning form and retain their status in the elite division.

"We were not troubled at all, as it looks we were highly motivated to win [against Gombe United]," Alimi told Goal.

"We know what we wanted and we came out for it. We never had any doubt of the game will slip away from the start of the match.

"Everyone in Sunshine Stars knows the standard of our club. And we know the caliber of each and every one of our players.

"Where we are is not where we are supposed to be but as it is we are trying to push ourselves to get back to where we belong. I strongly believe we cannot go down."

After the win, Sunshine Stars are now 17th in the standings with 30 points accrued from 25 matches.
