All eyes will fall on the bottom of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) table as both Ajax Cape Town and Platinum Stars will be in action on Sunday afternoon.

In the first of two games exciting games on offer, The Urban Warriors travel to Polokwane looking to build on their recent victory over Orlando Pirates. Ajax will be full of confidence and Polokwane City will certainly need to be wary of the Mother City-based outfit’s formidable attack.

The combination of Yannick Zakri alongside Tendai Ndoro and the club’s current leading goal scorer Tashreeq Morris look to have found their mojo, and on what is expected to be a blistering afternoon, their lethalness in front of goal could be crucial.

However, if Rise and Shine’s form this season is anything to go by, then Ajax could potentially be in for a tough encounter. Granted that City have stuttered of late, failing to win any of their last four games, it should be noted that they have earned credible draws against the likes of Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United, and not to forget that City are one of only a few teams to do the double over the high-flying Mamelodi Sundowns in recent times.

Ajax though, will almost certainly have to tame City’s attack. With only five clean sheets to their name this season, City have utilised the ‘best form of defence is offence approach’, and that has shown in the fact that Rodney Ramagalela has already notched up nine goals this season, with Jabulani Maluleke proving the creative mastermind contributing eight assists.

But while all indications are that fans are in for a tight game, historically speaking the clash is anything but close. Ajax have asserted their dominance over City having registered seven wins in 12 previous meetings, while City have only recorded two victories with their only league victory coming in the 2013/2014 season.

Meanwhile, in the day’s other action an inspired Chippa United will look to further struggling Dikwena’s woes. Stars are currently rooted to the bottom of the table, and walking away from the Eastern Cape with victory will be the only acceptable outcome as they look to close the five-point gap between themselves and second from bottom Ajax.

Stars coach Roger De Sa will be relying on new signings Riyaad Norodien and Ayanda Gcaba to use their experience to help the Phokeng-based outfit beat the drop, but it is unclear just what form Norodien will be in, considering that he has seen limited game time during his time with the Buccaneers.

Nonetheless, it won’t be easy for Stars as Chippa too are looking to rediscover their form. The Chilli Boys are winless in their last three games and know all too well that with games coming up against the league big guns, a full house of points is essential if they want to consolidate their place in the top eight.

Although, Coach Teboho Moloi will be without influential winger Linda Mntambo who is suspended for the clash this may force him to change things around, and with players like Fares Hachi and Thabo Rakhale in the squad, on paper Chippa might see themselves as favourites, and for good reason.

Out of 11 previous meetings four have been in favour of the Port Elizabeth-based outfit, but with the last meeting ending in a goalless draw earlier in the season, it could potentially be a tightly-fought contest.
