Storm Eunice: Have any Premier League games been cancelled & how is football being affected?

Storm Eunice is set to wreak havoc on European football this weekend, with matches across England and the Netherlands having already been cancelled and some Premier League clubs' plans disrupted in one way or another.

Europe is currently being hit by one of the most extreme storms in decades, with red weather warnings being issued as gusts of up to 122mph have been recorded in the worst affected areas.

This weekend's football schedule has been adversely affected as a result, with The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) taking the decision to postpone any professional matches that were due to take place on Friday, while a number of matches in England have also been called off.

Have any matches been called off in English football?

Bournemouth's Championship match at home to Nottingham Forest on Friday is among six professional first-team matches in England to be postponed so far.

The game was called off on Friday afternoon after the storm damaged sections of the Vitality Stadium roof which could not be repaired in time for kick-off.

Friday's National League match between Southend United and Grimsby Town was also called off after the Shrimpers' Roots Hall stadium suffered storm damage.

Saturday's League Two match between Exeter and Barrow, and National League ties between Halifax and Dover, Altrincham and Weymouth and Yeovil and Dagenham have also been postponed.

Brighton's PL2 fixture against Leeds United, meanwhile, is another to have been called off.

In the Premier League, reporters were advised not to travel to north London for Antonio Conte's press conference on Friday ahead of Tottenham's meeting with Manchester City.

According to Sun, the Spurs squad were then forced to travel to Manchester by bus instead of plane, while Burnley and Newcastle had to make long coach trips south for their games against Brighton and West Ham respectively after their flights were cancelled on Friday afternoon.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Everton were also forced to change their travel plans for Saturday's trip to Southampton because of the extreme weather.

What's happened in the Netherlands?

The KNVB released an official statement confirming the news of postponements across the board for February 18, which reads: "All professional football matches on Friday, February 18 will be cancelled due to storm Eunice and the red and orange code associated with it by the KNMI. 

"In consultation with the clubs, it has been decided to cancel the matches because the safety of players, club employees, supporters and sponsors in and around the stadium cannot be sufficiently guaranteed due to the extreme weather."

As things stand, games scheduled to take place on Saturday, including Ajax's fixture at Willem II, are still due to go ahead.
