Southampton v Tottenham Hotspur Betting Preview: Latest odds, team news, tips and predictions

Struggling Southampton must find a way to tame Tottenham Hotspur when the teams meet at St Mary's on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs were superb last weekend as they enjoyed a crushing 4-0 victory against Everton at Wembley, while the Saints surrendered a two-goal lead against Watford and were forced to settle for a share of the spoils at Vicarage Road.

Match odds

Tottenham thrashed Southampton 5-2 when the teams met at Wembley last month and so it is little surprise that Mauricio Pochettino's team are chalked up as Paddy Power's 8/13 (1.62) favourites to take all three points this weekend.

The hosts have won just one of their last 14 Premier League matches and have failed to win any of their last 10 top flight fixtures, therefore it would represent a significant shift in fortunes should Mauricio Pellegrino's team stop Spurs.

Indeed, Paddy Power offer 9/2 (5.50) that the hosts claim a vital victory, while the odds compilers offer 11/4 (3.75) that the match ends all square.

Team news

Harry Kane helped himself to a hat-trick when these teams met last month and the England striker has scored four goals in his last two games for Spurs, so he will surely be licking his lips at the prospect of facing Pellegrino's men again as the Saints have conceded in all but one of their last 14 matches in this competition.

Southampton will again be without striker Charlie Austin as the 28-year-old continues his recovery from a hamstring injury that saw him miss last month's mauling at Wembley.

Spurs to go goal crazy?

Tottenham have scored two or more goals in six of their last eight Premier League matches and, having hit seven goals without reply in their last two matches in all competitions, Pochettino's team will be full of confidence.

Paddy Power offer just 4/6 (1.67) that Spurs score more than once at St Mary's, but with the hosts in disarray, better value may lie in the 9/4 (3.25) quote on offer for Spurs to score at least three times this weekend.

Clean sheet for the visitors?

Spurs have managed five clean sheets in 11 Premier League matches away from home this season and Paddy Power go 5/4 (2.25) that the north Londoners shut out the Saints.

It is worth noting, however, that on each of those occasions, Spurs have gone on to win the game and, so, the 17/10 (2.70) quote from the odds compilers for Pochettino's team to win to nil could well represent good value for punters ahead of Sunday's showdown.

Tips and predictions

Spurs have lost just one of their last 11 games and it would be a major disappointment for the Londoners if they came up short against struggling Southampton at St Mary's.

The 8/13 (1.62) price for an away win is prohibitively skinny, though, and better value could lie in backing the visitors to win to nil at 17/10 (2.70) with Paddy Power.
