The Ex-Bafana Bafana forward believes the French-based hitman can be South Africa's next big star

Former South Africa national team striker Shaun Bartlett has backed Bafana Bafana and RC Strasbourg Alsace striker Lebo Mothiba to continue to strive at the highest level.

Bartlett spoke to Goal on Monday, after the youngster netted for his French Ligue 1 club against AS Monaco at the weekend.

“Yeah he is obviously doing well and I have been constantly contacting him. It's not only recently with Bafana,” Bartlett told Goal.

“Since he moved overseas, I have been keeping an eye on his progress and it's good to see him rapidly growing and seeing him scoring in every game,” he added.

“I just hope he continues to score and do well for himself and the country because it also benefits South Africa when he does well,” said the former Golden Arrows coach.

Speaking about the 22-year-old's future, Bartlett reckons Mothiba has the talent to play for any club in Europe.

Bartlett, who made a name for himself at the then English Premier League side Charlton Athletic, was most recently part of the Stuart Baxter's technical team during their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Seychelles early this month where he worked with Mothiba.

“I think he has scored five or six goals now and I am sure he can move to a good league or club when he's having a good season,” he continued.

“He can play in England in any big league in Europe and I believe he can be sold for over 20 million Euros, he just needs to be consistent and focus on himself, he will become better and better,” Bartlett remarked.

“Yeah it was important to work with him at club level and it was important to also guide them to ensure they fine tune their skills and improve on their strengths,” he reacted.

“The best for him and the guys is to focus on being the best and I will also try to my best in helping them,” concluded the retired striker.
