Shanghai Shenhua have insisted that Senegalese striker Demba Ba will not leave the club in the winter transfer window.
The 32-year-old – who has only 6 months left on his contract – had been linked with a return to the Turkish giants Besiktas.
Ba did not play a game for Wu Jingui’s men in the 2017 Chinese Super League season and was loaned to the Vodafone Arena outfit in January where he scored a goal in just two appearances in his five-month stay.
Despite the Black Eagles' interest in the ex-Chelsea striker, Shanghai Shenhua are not ready to lose the talisman as they await transfer regulations from the Chinese Football Association for the 2018 season.
"We have been keeping in close touch with Demba Ba and he is still in recuperation," a spokesperson for Shenhua told Shanghai Youth Daily.
"Demba Ba also told us that he would contact the club after he makes a full recovery. We will wait until then and decide whether or not he travels with us to Spain for the winter camp.
"The [CFA ] rules on foreign players next season has not been released, so Ba's future is not decided yet. We have to wait."
