Sebola questions Mahamutsa’s departure from Orlando Pirates

Rooi Mahamutsa, Orlando Pirates, February 2016.
The veteran defender was one of the players released by the club following the arrival of Muhsin Ertugral at the start of the 2016/17 PSL season

Former Orlando Pirates striker Andries Sebola says the departure of Rooi Mahamutsa left a huge gap at the back for the club.

“I mean Rooi Mahamutsa, even though age was not on his side anymore but his experience, you could see the gap he's left, especially at centre-back,” Sebola told Goal.

Mahamutsa’s contract ran out at the end of last season and was handed his clearance before joining Free State Stars on a free transfer.

Sebola is adamant that Ayanda Gcaba who has been in and out of the defensive structure of the team should have been released instead.

“You can see now at Free State Stars, he is delivering. Since he left Pirates, you can see the gap he has left. And most people don’t realize that players like Ayanda Gcaba are not Pirates material,” Sebola said.

“He has been making the team concede silly goals. So, players like Ayanda Gcaba, I’m sorry to say that needs to pack his bags and go,” Sebola concluded.

The Buccaneers conceded 40 goals in 30 matches in the league last season, conceding six goals twice to Tshwane giants SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns in the process.
