The former SuperSport United keeper can join any team on a pre-contract, but he has opted to begin contract talks with current employers, Sundowns

Goal can exclusively confirm that Mamelodi Sundowns have opened talks with Wayne Sandilands over the possibility of extending his contract beyond June 2017.

The veteran goalkeeper has entered the final six months of his contract with the Tshwane giants, but according to a source within the club, Pitso Mosimane wants him to stay for the next few seasons and has requested the club to offer him a new deal.

"The club is talking to his agent (Glyn Binkin), and he is aware that the club wants to renew his contract," the source told Goal.

"So, the club is confident that he will sign [the contract]. He's back at training with the rest of his teammates. He knows he has a future here and he's working hard like everyone else," the source concluded.

The 33-year-old hasn't been a regular over the past two seasons, and he made a single appearance for the Brazilians in the first half of the current campaign as he continues to play second fiddle to Africa's best player and Ugandan goalkeeper Denis Onyango.

Despite his lack of game time under coach Pitso Mosimane, the former Bafana Bafana shot-stopper is still happy at Chloorkop.

With Onyango currently at the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament with Uganda, this could be Sandilands' chance to win his place in the team going into the second round of the 2016/17 season.
