Sam Johnson ‘regrets’ never winning trophy with Ghana

Former Ghana defender Sam 'Foyoo' Johnson says not winning a title with the Black Stars is the biggest regret of his illustrious playing career.

The 45-year-old, who played for Ghana Premier League club Hearts of Oak, is perhaps best known for his time in Turkey with Fenerbahce, where he spent four seasons and won one league title.

“My greatest regret is I never won anything for Ghana. I did not play in the junior so I can’t talk about that but my greatest regret is not winning any major title especially the Afcon for Ghana,” Johnson said.

“However, my happiest moment is when I beat Galatasary 1-0. That game was our hell because we played at their home ground," he said.

"They were on fire because they had just beaten Arsenal in the European Cup final and also defeated Real Madrid in the European Champions of Champions so you can imagine the kind of team we were playing against.

“They had more than 26 chances to score and win the game but we never had one. Everybody was looking at one side in the first half. In the second half too, everybody was looking at one side but we shocked everyone," he added.

Johnson made 45 international caps with Ghana and participated in two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
