Salomon Kalou helps Hertha Berlin return to winning ways

Last updated
The capital club's impressive home form has seen them win 34 of their 43 points at the Olympiastadion this season.

Salomon Kalou was in fine form on Sunday as he helped Hertha Berlin return to winning ways with a strong performance in their 2-0 win over Augsburg in a Bundesliga encounter.

Hertha had lost their previous three before this weekend, but Kalou and co. were in fine form to dispatch Augsburg at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

John Brooks benefited from Valentin Stocker’s miscued effort following a corner to open the scoring in the 12th minute.

A nice interplay between Vedad Ibisevic and Kalou presented the home side with another glorious opportunity to double their lead but they were denied by Marwin Hitz in the opposition goals.

But Kalou - again - would do well to create himself some space before crossing for Stocker to tap in after some decent work from Ibisevic who outmuscled a defender in order to create some space.

With the win, Hertha move up to fifth on the log and now look set to be heading for European football next season, whilst Augsburg are in great danger as they continue to dangle around the relegation zone.

Kalou has been struggling to hit his best form lately and he was replaced in all three of the Die Alte Dame’s recent losses before today.

Overall, the retired Cote d’Ivoire international has been one of the top performers for  Pal Dardai’s men with six goals in 20 appearances.
