Ronaldo surpasses Messi as Club World Cup's all-time top goalscorer

Cristiano Ronaldo's strike against Al Jazira has confirmed the Real Madrid star as the top scorer in Club World Cup history.

The Portugal international was on target to level up Wednesday's semi-final, seconds after Al Jazira had seen their second goal of the night ruled out for offside.

Incredibly, that was the third strike in just over 45 minutes to be disallowed, with Ronaldo and Casemiro suffering the same fate in the first half.

There was no confusion about Cristiano's eventual equaliser, however, a crisp strike that gave the opposing keeper no chance.

And in the process he overtook the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Cesar Delgado as the Club World Cup's most-prolific marksman.

Nobody can match the six goals the forward has netted in the competition, with the aforementioned trio scoring five each.

And there could still be more to come from CR7, as Madrid win or lose are guaranteed at least one more game in Abu Dhabi before the Club World Cup ends.
