Roma v Chelsea Betting: Tense clash in Italy unlikely to breed goals

Despite their exciting six-goal thriller in London, Al Hain-Cole is backing the Giallorossi to keep things tight on home turf against Conte's men

Chelsea have the chance to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League when they travel to the Stadio Olimpico to take on Roma on Tuesday.

Two points clear of second and five ahead of third-placed Atletico Madrid in Group C, Antonio Conte’s team are available at 17/10 (2.70) with BetSafe to secure their progression to the knockout stages with a victory here.

However, the Giallorossi claimed a creditable 3-3 draw in the away match at Stamford Bridge two weeks ago, and are also on offer at 17/10 (2.70) to leapfrog their opponents into top spot with a win in this one.

That draw was a second in three matches for the hosts in this season’s competition, and you can back odds of 51/20 (3.55) on them being forced to settle for a single point yet again on this occasion.

Although not out of character for a Blues side that has been productive going forward but relatively fragile at the back so far this campaign, the hectic six-goal draw two weeks ago was not in keeping with their Italian opponents’ recent form.

The three goals let in by Eusebio Di Francesco’s side in west London were as many as they had conceded in their seven previous matches put together, and three successive clean sheets since then suggest it was something of an anomaly.

In fact, it was rather unusual to see them so productive at the other end of the pitch as well, considering they have scored just three times in the three subsequent matches in total.

With a two-point cushion over Atletico Madrid to protect, it is unlikely that the Italians will leave themselves so open in this encounter – instead looking to keep things tight against a Chelsea side that has won just once in nine away games versus Italian teams.

With this in mind, odds of 63/50 (2.26) could well prove a smart investment on Roma ensuring under 2.5 goals for their sixth time in seven fixtures in all competitions.
