Roma target Riyad Mahrez is good enough for Arsenal, say readers

AS Roma are appearing increasingly desperate to seal a deal for Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez this transfer, with rumours linking the Algeria international to Serie A intensifying by the day.

As things stand, the two clubs appear unable to agree terms, with reports in the English press this weekend revealing that the Giallorossi were lining up one final offer to tempt the Foxes into selling.

The Sun reported that the Serie A heavyweights have already had an offer of £32 million rejected for the North African, and the club’s sporting director Monchi has told journalists that he will not let his team be ripped off.

The 26-year-old is undoubtedly talented, but his stock has fallen in the last 12 months after his inspirational performances during Leicester’s title-winning campaign, and Roma will also be aware that his desire to move away from the King Power Stadium could work in their favour.

However, could the capital club’s failure to secure an agreement with the East Midlanders also help another one of the player’s potential suitors, Arsenal?

The Gunners have long been tipped to be hot in pursuit of the talented wideman, and while they flexed their own offensive muscles in a 5-2 demolition of Benfica on Saturday, the addition of Mahrez—who’s already proved his quality in the Premier League—could be vital as the Londoners look to return to the top four.

According to Goal readers, the North African would be a valuable signing for Arsene Wenger.

In a recent poll, a whopping 92 percent of respondents expressed their belief that Mahrez was good enough to prosper at Arsenal.

Conversely, only eight percent of those who responded don’t feel that the Premier League winner has the required quality to be a success at the Emirates Stadium.

As things stand, Roma still appear to be favourites for the wideman’s signature.

However, should they fail to get the deal over the line, and should Leicester hold out for a higher fee, then could the Gunners yet be the key beneficiaries?
