The Bundesliga outfit are set to make their debut in European competition and our tipster expects the goals to flow when Jardim's team visit Germany

Red Bull Leipzig will fulfil their first ever fixture in European competition when they take to the field against Monaco in Champions League Group G on Wednesday night.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side ended last season as runners-up to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and, as such, they take their place in the group stages of this competition; bet365 go 6/5 (2.20) that the German side make a dream debut by picking up all three points against the Ligue 1 champions.

Leonardo Jardim’s team, however, will provide stiff opposition; Monaco reached the final four of this competition last season and the visitors can be backed at 11/5 (3.20) to kick off this season’s campaign with victory, while the odds compilers offer 12/5 (3.40) that the match ends all square.

Leipzig put four past Freiburg in their only competitive home match of the season so far and there is certainly plenty of potential for an explosive encounter here, for there have been at least three goals scored in eight of the last nine Champions League matches that Jardim’s charges have contested.

Furthermore, it has been a goal-laden start to the season for Monaco, with the Ligue 1 side scoring no fewer than 14 goals in four league wins before suffering a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Nice at the weekend; bet365 go 7/10 (1.70) that there are at three goals or more scored when these two teams meet in Group G, while the same firm offer 8/13 (1.62) that there are goals at both ends in this game.

Monaco will be determined to make their European experience count in this clash and bet365 go even money (2.0) that Jardim’s team pick up all three points from a match in which both teams are on target, while the French champions are chalked up as a 15/4 (4.75) chance to claim victory from a fixture that features at least three goals.

Leipzig, however, are an unknown quantity in this competition and, having performed so well in the Bundesliga last term, it would be foolish to underestimate Hasenhuttl’s side, who will be roared on by a vociferous home support.

Better value, therefore, could well lie in backing a goal-laden game in this Champions League Group G curtain-raiser and, so, it is bet365’s 7/4 (2.75) quote for at least four goals to be scored that could represent best value for punters ahead of Wednesday’s crucial clash.
