With their elimination from the Champions League confirmed on Tuesday night, Atletico Madrid will now turn their focus to domestic matters where things have been progressing considerably better for Diego Simeone's men.
On their longest ever unbeaten run at the start of a league campaign, Atleti head to Seville looking for their fourth consecutive away win and Los Rojiblancos are clear favourites at 19/25 (1.76) to win Sunday afternoon's game at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.
Their opponents are a Real Betis side in freefall, without a win in five league games and having suffered a humiliating Copa Del Rey defeat last week at the hands of their second tier local rivals Cadiz.
Manager Quique Setien knows that another poor defensive performance from his side on Sunday could be extremely costly and Los Verdiblancos have been shipping goals at an alarming rate; indeed, this season in La Liga, Betis have conceded three goals against Villarreal, four against Real Sociedad, five against Eibar and six against Valencia, while also allowing second division Cadiz to net five times when they visited the Villamarin last week.
After a disappointing patch last month, Atletico have seemingly turned a corner and are finding the back of the net with greater ease and reassuring consistency.
An upturn in fortunes for Atleti coincided with a return to form for Antoine Griezmann, but the Frenchman will be missing for the game at Betis with a hamstring injury so they will be considerably weaker in the final third without him.
Backing them to win, however, still seems like a wise option, although perhaps they will not riot run as other teams have against Betis.
A more pertinent selection, though, is Atletico to win and under 3.5 goals; this is offered at 7/5 (2.40) and has paid out in four of the last seven meetings between the two sides.
Atleti are well versed in recording tight wins away from home, too, with three of their last four wins on the road coming with fewer than four goals in the game.
