Although South African national team coach Stuart Baxter has shown interest in having striker Tom Barkhuizen to play for his team, the striker says he remains focused on English Championship play-offs.
The forward is only focused on his club, Preston North End's play-off push despite talks that Bafana Bafana coach Baxter is keen to have him in his squad.
Preston are placed 10th in the log table after 39 matches with 60 points and the forward will hope to help the club push for a spot in the English Premier League.
Barkhuizen was born in Blackpool, England, but qualifies to represent the South African senior squad through his grandfather.
Moreover, it is understood the South African Football Association (Safa) is looking to expand their pool of players, Barkhuizen being someone on their radar.
However, as the recent international break has come and gone to a close, the 24-year-old attacker insists all his attention is on the final eight games on the Championship season.
“It’s not something I’ve really thought about,” Barkhuizen said to Lancashire Post.
“If I get a phone call, it’s one of those, you never know, but while there’s nothing concrete there’s no point in talking about it from my point of view," he continued.
“My focus right now is just on trying to get this club into the Premier League and anything after that we’ll just wait and see," he concluded.
Baxter recently confirmed that he had managed to persuade Juventus defender, Joel Untersee, to play for Bafana.
The Johannesburg-born defender, who is currently on loan at Italian Serie B side Empoli, previously represented Switzerland at youth level.
Untersee was not called up to Baxter’s recent Bafana squad for the Four-Nation tournament because Empoli were action during the Fifa international break.
