The Liverpool defender helped himself to a 17th shutout of the season on Sunday against Everton and is heavy favourite to claim the individual award

Virgil van Dijk is 1/2 (1.50) favourite to win PFA Player of the Year after helping Liverpool keep their 17th clean sheet of the season in their 0-0 draw with Everton.

That result meant the Reds fell off the top spot in the league for the first time in almost three months but are just three clean sheets short of equalling the club record for most in a Premier League season.

With nine games left of the campaign, defensive solidity will be key to Liverpool’s fading title ambitions and the Golden Glove looks set to be heading to Anfield with Manchester City on 14 clean sheets.

Sergio Aguero Manchester City 2018-19

Van Dijk, of course, has been a defensive stalwart since completing his £75 million move to Anfield in January 2018, with Jurgen Klopp’s men keeping a clean sheet in 24 of the 43 league games the Dutchman has played.

Sergio Aguero is available at 5/1 (6.0) with bet365 to, remarkably, become the first Man City player to ever win the award.

The Argentine has scored 18 goals this season to lead the way in the Golden Boot charts and is showing no signs of stopping as City chase a fourth title in seven years.

Aguero is closing in on his fifth consecutive season of scoring 20 or more Premier League goals, a record previously only achieved by Thierry Henry.

City teammate Raheem Sterling can be backed at 9/1 (10.0) after scoring 12 goals and recording nine assists so far this term in just 23 starts, a key part in the Manchester club’s attempt to retain the title.

It is 14/1 (15.0) that Mohamed Salah claims Player of the Year for the second season in a row, with the Egyptian racking up 17 goals so far but only one of those has come in his last six appearances.

Citizens pair David Silva (16/1) and Fernandinho (20/1) could both offer some potential value, whilst Paul Pogba – somewhat rejuvenated under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – is 33/1 (34.0).
