Plateau United 's Raphael Ayagwa is delighted that Nigeria got their 2018 African Nations Championship campaign back on track with a win over Libya.

Sunday Faleye’s solitary effort in the 79th minute saw the CHAN Eagles edge past the Mediterranean Knights at the Grand Stage de Tanger on Friday.

“Although I couldn’t watch the match because we were in transit ahead of Sunday's game with Abia Warriors but I am happy that we won. I was following proceedings on my phone and when we scored I was more than happy,” Ayagwa told Goal .

“It was a relief that we got the goal because another draw would have put our qualification in doubt. I thought the Libyans would have an edge because of the way they beat Equatorial Guinea in the first game but we showed the Nigeria spirit and I am happy for them.

“We have put ourselves in a good position to qualify for the next round but it is not a done deal yet because Equatorial Guinea could prove to be spoilers. We must prepare very well for the final group game against them and strive to score as many goals as possible.

“It is our opportunity now to nick a place in the quarter-final and we must not throw it away,” he said.

Ayagwa who joined Plateau United at the beginning of the season from Lobi Stars was a member of the team but was unable to make the cut for the championship in Morocco.

Salisu Yusuf's side moved to the top of Group C, level on four points with Rwanda who handed a 1-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea. The Eagles need only a point to progress to the next round of the competition.
