The Glory rebuild under Popovic continues to look impressive

Perth Glory has continued their impressive recruiting spree under new coach Tony Popovic, signing Socceroo defender Jason Davidson on a one-year deal.

The 27-year-old spent last season on the books of Croatia's Rijeka, but was loaned out to Slovenia's Olimpija Ljubljana, where he helped the club to a league and cup double.

"Jason is another high-quality, Australian defender who has forged a very successful career overseas and we beat off stiff competition from a host of clubs both here and overseas in order to sign him,” Glory football director Jacob Burns said.

"He brings great ability, athleticism and a winning mentality."

The signing of Davidson completes a quartet of impressive defensive acquistions by Popovic, including Matthew Spiranovic, Ivan Franjic and Tomislav Mrcela.

His club career peaked in 2014-15 when he played two Premier League games for West Bromwich Albion after a earning a move from Dutch Eredivisie club Heracles Almelo.

Perth Glory are preparing for a high-profile friendly match against English giants Chelsea at Optus Stadium on Monday July 23.
