Midtjlland's Onuachu nets hat-trick in Europa League playoffs

The 23-year-old forward’s brilliance stood out in the Showgrounds on Thursday as his Danish side marched to the next round of the competition

Paul Onuachu sealed Midtjlland’s progress to the next round of the UEFA Europa League with a comfortable 4-1 victory against Irish side Derry City.

The forward scored three times in the econunter as Jess Thorup’s men advanced to the next qualification round, 10-2 on aggregate after a 6-1 triumph in the first leg.

Onuachu who netted 18 goals in 36 games last season, started the party in the Showgrounds with a seventh minute opener and later doubled the lead for his team in the 39th minute.

Aaron McEneff's 41st minute effort tried to get Derry City back into the game but Gustav Wikheim continued the party for the MCH Arena’s outfit with a 59th minute goal before Onuachu completed his hattrick ten minutes later.

Midtjlland will lock horns with Ferencváros in the next round on July 13 and will welcome them to the MCH Arena on July 19 for the return fixture.
