Abia Warriors’ Patrick Ngwaogwu has stated that there is no qualm in the camp of the Warriors despite their indifferent results in the pre-season games they have had in recent times.
Abia Warriors are yet to secure a win in their last three pre-season friendly matches against Udala FC (1-1), Go Round (1-2) and Rivers United (0-1) after they succumbed to a second-half penalty kick strike from Moses Omoduemuke against the Pride of Rivers at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on Saturday to make it second consecutive loss.
Ngwaogu who is an assistant coach with the team played down on the unimpressive results while disclosing that they used the games to see all the new players they acquired ahead of the season and that they are satisfied with the outcome of their closed camping exercise in Nanka, Anambra State and Omagwa in Rivers State.
He said they left for Umuahia after the Saturday morning loss to Rivers United and that they are heading home to correct the mistakes they noticed during their stay in Nanka and the few days spent in Omagwa also and that they were not too much keen about the results recorded but ensuring that they raise a squad that is ready for the rigour of the coming season.
“I don’t think the outcome of those games really bothered us because we achieved the reason for our trip to Nanka and later to Omagwa in Rivers State,” Ngwaogu told Goal.
“We went to Nanka for a close camping exercise and we played some friendly games to see the new players we bought at the start of the preseason and also to ensure that is proper bonding between the old and new players. We have succeeded in what we went for Nanka for and I will say that the games we played in Omagwa, Rivers State with Go Round and Rivers United have become an eye-opener to us in our future engagements.
“I will say that the closed camping we had in Nanka was a success by our own yardstick and the games we played Omagwa have made us know exactly where we are and what we must do to move to the next level. We are going back home to continue work on what is left of our preparations for the season.”
Abia Warriors' last victory in the ongoing preseason campaign was their 2-1 win over FC Ifeanyi Ubah at the Neros Sports Complex, Nanka last week.
