Palacios: Orlando Pirates desperate for a win over Platinum Stars

In an exclusive interview with Goal, the 65-year-old emphasized the importance of winning their first PSL game of 2017 on Wednesday night

Orlando Pirates interim coach Augusto Palacios has stated that it’s important for his team to start the year on a winning note.

The Buccaneers will be away to Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, and Palacios said anything less than three points will be unacceptable.

Bucs go into the encounter lying 10th on the log table, and will be eager to forget about back-to-back defeats they suffered to Maritzburg United and Bloemfontein Celtic toward the end of last year.

Palacios again warned his players that they need to take this game seriously if they want to move back into the top eight.

“I think everyone knows that it's the important not to lose points in your first game. The important thing is to win points,” Palacios told Goal.

“Now, this is important - the first game of the league resumption. It’s very important to always start the league game with the aim to get the points," he said.

“You cannot start with a losing mentality. One important thing is for the players to take the game seriously and what we did when re-opened on the 9th of January up to now,” Palacios concluded.
