Both states have pulled away from their other counterparts after the results they achieved on Wednesday

ABIA 2-1 EBONYI

Ibeku High School, Abia bounced back from their draw on the first day of the regional Playoff in Owerri against Anambra’s Holy Name Secondary School to record their first win of the competition at the Owerri City College pitch on Wednesday against Ebonyi’s Community Secondary School, Ndaburu Ebenyi.

Abia actually had to come back from a goal down in their Tuesday match but on Wednesday they were fully in charge right from the start till the very end. Abia drew the first blood through Chijioke  Amajor who was also on the score sheet on Tuesday but Ebonyi fought back desperately and they were rewarded with the equalizer through Igwe Izuchukwu who converted well after being fed by one of his teammates.

The game was titling towards another draw but the Abians are in no mood for that and it was no surprise they shot ahead again through Nwachukwu Onuoha in the second half and the tie ended that way as Ibeku High School celebrated their first win with aplomb.

It was another poor performance from Ebonyi who were also on the receiving end of a 0-2 loss to Rivers on Tuesday and they have crashed out of the competition even with the third game yet to be played.

Abia are second on the Owerri Regional playoff group with four points behind Rivers’ Community Secondary School, Amadi Ama who also have four points but are on top by virtue of their superior goal difference of while Anambra and Ebonyi are third and fourth respectively.

ANAMBRA 1-1 RIVERS

There is no two ways about it; this match should go as the star match of the region with the way both teams approached the tie and the energy they used up during the course of the match. It was an enthralling match that left spectators staying glue to their seats until the final blast of the referee’s whistle at the Owerri City College pitch.

Anambra’s Holy Name Secondary School were held to a draw by Abia the previous day and they knew a loss against Rivers’ Community Secondary School will put an end to their dream of qualifying for the national playoff in Lagos and they came into the match well prepared for Rivers’ Community Secondary School Amadi Ama better than they did against Abia on Tuesday.

The Anambra side dominated the early exchange of passes but they missed many scoring chances while Rivers recovered to try their own luck too without success. Rivers were always daring whenever they are attacking while their foes have mapped out strategy with which to ensure that they escape from the tie without much problem.

Rivers scored the opening goal of the match through Godwin Achibong who also found the back of the net a day earlier and it ended that way in the first half but the halftime enable their foes to regroup and it was no surprise Anambra got the equalizer through Ofor Stephen in the second half. There was chance for further goals.
