Orlando Pirates could strip Oupa Manyisa of captaincy

The 28-year-old, who struggled to regain his old form, is said to be unable to unite the Bucs players and some don’t even take him seriously

Orlando Pirates skipper Oupa Manyisa could reportedly be stripped off the captain’s armband following the club's disappointing 2016/17 season.

The midfielder was appointed Pirates captain two seasons ago - replacing Lucky Lekgwathi, who is one of the most successful Bucs captains in the club's history

According to The Citizen source, the 25-capped South Africa international is having fingers pointed at him for the club’s poor display in the last two seasons.

“This is a big issue at the club, there is no one who is satisfied with his leadership," the source said.

"He is a good player but he hasn’t been performing well in the last couple of months on the pitch and in his duties as the club’s captain," the source added.

"He barely speaks, he can’t even motivate players when they are down," the source continued.

"Should it be decided that they take the belt away from him, Thabo Matlaba or Happy Jele will take over,” the source concluded.

Manyisa made 35 appearances in all competitions for Bucs during the 2016/17 season - netting four goals in process.
