A first-half goal from Ugandan, Emmanuel Okwi helped Simba to claim a 1-0 victory over Mtibwa Sugar and maintain their Premier League unbeaten record to 22 games.
Simba who are chasing a first league title in five seasons started the game strongly with a clear plan of looking for an early goal.
However, the pitch was not friendly for either side to play some decent football following the rains which started soon after kick off. The field was filled with ponds of water that did not allow the ball to bounce and move well.
Okwi who is the Premier League's top scorer broke the deadlock in the 23th minute finishing off a good move initiated by skipper John Bocco who headed down a Nicholas Gyan’s cross for the Ugandan to score an easy goal.
After going behind, Mtibwa Sugar got forward more frequently to find a path for an equalizer but a goal didn’t arrive until the break.
Simba had to defend deep after the break, with Mtibwa Sugar having the majority of the chances and possession.
Wekundu wa Msimbazi were without Erasto Nyoni, Juuko Murshid and James Kotei who are key figures in the starting line-up this season but incomers Paul Bukaba, Mzamiru Yassin and Jonas Mkude did not disappoint at all.
Pierre Lechantre’s men are now six points clear at the top of the table above their arch rivals Yanga who have a game in hand.
Mtibwa Sugar who beat Singida United on Saturday remain sixth on the table with their 30 points.
