Official: Anichebe ruled out for three months

The Nigeria international, 28, has been impressive for Sunderland this season, but he looks set to be sidelined for a long period through injury

Sunderland's Victor Anichebe has been ruled out of action for three months with a knee ligament damage sustained against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Although he played on following treatment from medics, scans on the leg on Monday showed that the forward ruptured his medial ligament.

Anichebe who boasts of three goals in 11 Premier League appearances will spend six weeks in a leg brace and joins an already lengthy injury list at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland sit at the base of the English topflight with 15 points from 22 games.
