Great Olympics board member Fred Pappoe has slammed the decision to relieve George Afriyie of his duties as Ghana Football Association vice president.

Afriyie, who declared his intention to succeed Kwesi Nyantakyi in 2019, was fired on Tuesday following a unanimous decision from the GFA’s Executive Committee.

Pappoe was vice to Nyantakyi during his first tenure before being replaced by Jordan Anagbla, who was later succeeded by Fred Crenstil.

"I believe it was wrong to sack Afriyie. However, I am not in the position to choose who succeeds him," Pappoe told TV3.

"I think Kwesi Nyantakyi is making the vice president position of the football association irrelevant.

"I don't understand why you should be saying things [that you won't contest again] only to suit the members of the FA and the next time when the vice says something which is unpleasant he is shown the exit.

"This is not good for our football because we need people who can aid in the development of our football and not this behaviour," he added.

Goal understands that a new vice president will be named next week.
