Next Manchester United Manager Odds: Solskjaer clear favourite after impressive start

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's appointment at Manchester United was only designed to be a temporary role, an interim solution while the club sought out their long-term option to succeed Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

The rapid upturn in performances since Solksjaer's arrival though, means the 45-year-old now heads the market to remain in charge of the club next season.

Seven consecutive wins in the Premier League and FA Cup plus a vast improvement in the relations with key players such as Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial have added to the Norwegian’s case.

The emphatic winning run has seen United cut to 11/8 (2.38) for a top four finish, having closed the gap on Chelsea to just three points. That key milestone was looking less and less likely under Mourinho and was available at 14/1 (15.0) on the day Solskjaer was appointed.

William Hill go 6/4 (2.50) that Solksjaer is the Manchester United manager on the first day of the 2019-20 season, a price that's been steadily shortening since his move from Molde was announced.

The most impressive United performance of his short tenure came against Tottenham at Wembley, with an inspired David de Gea securing three points for the visitors.

Mauricio Pochettino was on the losing side that day but the current Spurs boss remains 2/1 (3.0) second favourite to be the long-term choice of Manchester United.

The London club are struggling with key injuries as Harry Kane and Dele Alli are side-lined while Heung-Min Son is on international duty. While they're still in a comfortable position domestically, a failure to qualify for the Champions League this term could play a key part in any potential decision from Pochettino regarding his future.

Marco Rose has been a surprise entrant in this market in recent days with the current Red Bull Salzburg boss now an 8/1 (9.0) chance to take over at Manchester United before the start of next season.

Elsewhere, Zinedine Zidane is a 9/1 (10.0) chance. The former Real Madrid boss has some of the most impeccable stock of any potential United manager given his hat-trick of Champions League crowns with Los Blancos, and the 46-year-old has regularly been linked with the role since Mourinho started coming under pressure earlier in the campaign.

Massimiliano Allegri should have plenty more silverware in his collection by the end of the season with Juventus and the Italian is a 10/1 (11.0) shot to make the move to Old Trafford.

One of the more left-field names linked with the potential vacancy has been Gareth Southgate who now also sits at 10/1 (11.0) with William Hill.

The England boss would surely struggle to turn down one of the biggest jobs in world football were it to be offered to him but such a move would represent something of a gamble from the club's hierarchy despite the Three Lions' successful World Cup last summer.
