New York part ways with Gideon Baah

Ghana defender Gideon Baah has parted ways with New York Red Bulls, the two parties have confirmed.

The 26-year-old joined the Major League Soccer outfit from Finnish side HJK Helsinki in 2016.

Despite having a splendid start, the former Asante Kotoko left-back suffered a dip in form after hurting his leg against Portland Timbers in July 2016.

Although he recovered fully last month, he couldn't make a single appearance for the senior side in the just-concluded season, featuring only two times for the junior team in the United Soccer League.

He has been named among ten players whose contract won't be renewed by the club.

“New York declined options on defenders Sal Zizzo, and Gideon Baah, along with midfielders Mike Grella , Dilly Duka, Dan Metzger, Arun Basuljevic, Vince Bezecourt," a club's statement read.

"And Zeiko Lewis, and forwards Gonzalo Veron and Brandon Allen. Veteran defender Damien Perrinelle’s contract expired at the end of 2017 and won't be renewed also,” the statement added.

Baah thanked the club's supporters for their role during his stay but admits he couldn't reach his full potentials.

Baah had a trial at Chelsea in the past following recommendations from Michael Essien after he won a reality show in Ghana but he failed to impress the Premier League side's technical team.
