Former Mohun Bagan defender Kinshuk Debnath is all set to join rival club East Bengal for the upcoming 2018/19 season.
The 33-year-old Bengali defender will be wearing the Red and Gold jersey for the very first time in his career after playing for five Kolkata clubs - Techno Aryan, United Sports Club, Mohun Bagan, Mohammedan Sporting and ATK. He has also plied his trade at Mumbai City FC in 2015.
The defender has won two Indian Super League (ISL) titles with ATK (2014,16) and I-League (2014/15) and Federation Cup (2015/16) titles with Mohun Bagan.
After playing for seven seasons at Mohun Bagan, the club decided not to include the veteran defender in their squad in the upcoming season. His name was not included in the 24-man list which was released last month by the club.
Sources close to GOAL confirm that after being rejected by the Mariners, the defender is on his way to join East Bengal. The Red and Golds' player recruitment plans went haywire after their main sponsors United Breweries (UB) group decided to slash the sponsor amount. The club has already released star defenders like Arnab Mondal and Gurwinder Singh who have joined ISL clubs ATK and NorthEast United FC respectively.
East Bengal also lost the battle to sign Minerva Punjab's I-League winning defender Sukhdev Singh to Mohun Bagan.
