Mohun Bagan: Anjan Mitra accepts Debashish Dutta's resignation

While Srinjoy Bose's resignation was ignored by the working committee, former financial secretary Debashish Dutta received a different treatment...

In a dramatic turn of events at the Mohun Bagan tent on Wednesday evening, club secretary Anjan Mitra declared that financial secretary Debashish Dutta'a resignation has been accepted. Veteran club member Kashinath Das has been roped in as the new financial secretary from immediate effect. Das is a well-known face in Maidan as he had formerly shouldered the responsibilities of Mohun Bagan's hockey team and has been a close follower of Mitra.

But strangely, Srinjoy Bose's resignation was brushed aside by the secretary."He (Srinjoy Bose) is one of our sponsors. So we have to be careful with him. He has asked for some time as well," reasoned Mitra.

It is well known that Mitra and Dutta are currently at loggerheads with each other and even though the latter considers the former as his 'Administrative Guru', both of them have not been in good terms lately.

"We have accepted his resignation as he has not been turning up for executive committee meetings. He submitted his resignation on March 12 and on March 29 although he attended a meeting, he refused to sign the attendance sheet. The club served him a notice after his absence from four meetings, but we haven't received any reply. We had no other way other than accepting his resignation," explained Mitra.

Dutta, flanked by other resigned members of the executive committee, met the press at his office. "I do not know how a resignation which has formerly been rejected can be accepted at a later date. In the meantime, I have signed several cheques for payment of footballers. I was not even informed of today's meeting. Therefore, I mailed Anjan Mitra to know the reason behind it.

"As the financial secretary, I wanted to take some steps which would have helped the club. But it seems that some individuals would be hurt by those. I will soon reveal those to the public. The members know how much I have done for Mohun Bagan and the results in the upcoming election will highlight that," fumed Dutta.

Mitra has stated that he will not take any responsibility for the debts from the 2017/18 season as he was not aware of the expenditures. A couple of days ago he even confirmed that the list of 25 players registered for next season will be reviewed and keeping in mind the budget of the club, an appropriate decision will be taken.
