Mexico, USA friendly games very important to Ghana, says Gyan

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan believes the two friendly matches against Mexico and USA on June 28 and July 1 will help the Black Stars in their preparations ahead of the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana boast of just one point from two games after sharing the spoils goalless at home with Uganda and losing 2-0 to Egypt, whom they trail by five points.

“These matches are very important, because they will be good for our Fifa ranking,” Gyan told reporters after the Black Stars training in Accra on Wednesday.

“So we will treat it like a serious game even though it’s a friendly. We have to protect our reputation in this match so we have to go there and play our normal game and make sure we win.

“With football, anything can happen but we are focused on the friendlies because it is very important to our qualification to the World Cup also. We will be under pressure to succeed since they will be playing at home but it is normal. We have young players in the team who also need exposure for their development,” he added.

The Black Stars contingent will leave Ghana on Friday.

It remains unclear whether the Ayew brothers and Daniel Amartey will make the trip after their clubs wrote to the Ghana Football Association to excuse them in order to have enough rest for their upcoming pre-season tour.
