Mbekile: Mamelodi Sundowns need to get closer to the top after Orlando Pirates game

Mbekile tells Goal that it’s imperative for them to beat the Buccaneers in order to continue their upsurge on the PSL standings

Mamelodi Sundowns utility player Asavela Mbekile says they are extremely confident that they can beat Orlando Pirates and stay in touching distance with the PSL pacesetters.

“We are looking forward to the game. So we are very confident we can get a good result after a good performance against (Bloemfontein) Celtic,” Mbekile told Goal.

The PSL champions are coming off a 1-0 win over Celtic in the Free State province on Wednesday with the goal coming from Themba Zwane, while Bucs drew 0-0 away to Platinum Stars.

The two sides lie in contrasting positions. Downs is slowly edging to the top after their win over Siwelele elevated them to fifth, Bucs sit in tenth and need to win this weekend to move back into the top eight.

“We are confident we are going to put up the performance to get the points we need. It’s important for us to win the next two games, so we can get closer to the teams that are on top right now.

“So we really need to win this one, it’s important we do so,” Mbekile said.

The Brazilians did the league double over Bucs last season, winning 2-0 in Tshwane and 2-1 at the Orlando Stadium.
