Khumalo has taken his football to another level since joining Amakhosi,.and Mayo tells Goal that the full-back deserves a return to the national team

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Patrick Mayo tells Goal that Sibusiso Khumalo should get a recall to the senior national team given his performances for the club this season.

“I think he deserves to get a place in Bafana. I think they should give him a chance because he is doing very well in that left-back position,” Mayo told Goal.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns defender joined the club from SuperSport United in a swap deal that saw Keegan Ritchie go in the opposite different.

To date, he has earned four Bafana Bafana caps.

“Now that Tsepo Masilela is not playing regularly, I think he needs to get an opportunity in Bafana,” Mayo said.

Khumalo, 27, has made 13 appearances for the club in all competitions this season.

His defensive partners Eric Mathoho and Lorenzo Gordinho at centre-back have also impressed Mayo, who believes that the Amakhosi duo should also be recalled to the national team.

“They are doing very well both of them. I think they should be called up to the national team so that they can compete with Rivaldo Coetzee for the centre-back positions,” Mayo concluded.
