The Fire Boys will have to surmount the Phobians’ challenge to maintain their lead in week 26 of the local topflight

Before the Ghana Premier League heads on another one-month hiatus, new leaders Aduana Stars will have to prove one more time that they deserve to reign during the break.

After a five-week interlude, the topflight resumed on Sunday but Ghana’s hosting of the upcoming Wafu Tournament means the league will have to take another recess after midweek action on Wednesday.

Aduana only knocked off Wafa from the top of the table on Sunday, but a one-point difference between the two clubs means the Fire Boys will have to pick full marks on Wednesday to crash any chance of relinquishing their lead.

The three points, however, will not come easy as the Dormaa-based side are set to play as guests to giants Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium. Hearts are third on the log, having won only a game less than Aduana so far.

Wafa, meanwhile, will keep an eye on happenings in Accra. The Academy Boys, who welcome second-from-bottom Great Olympics to Sogakope, could reclaim the top spot with a win should Aduana drop points.

Fourth-placed Asante Kotoko cannot be ruled out of the race just yet. A victory at Elmina Sharks will consolidate their position as title contenders. A defeat, on the other hand, could see the Porcupine Warriors overtaken by Berekum Chelsea, who play away to 2014-15 champions Ashanti Gold.

On the search for their 10th win of the season, Medeama will square off against Ebusua Dwarfs at the T&A Park. The Yellow and Mauves occupy the sixth position, two places above the Crabs, even if both teams have the same number of points.

On the back of a 1-0 win over Ashgold, ninth-placed Bechem United are looking to make it two victories in a row when they lock horns with Liberty Professionals away at the Carl Reindorf Park. The Scientific Soccer Lads are expected to pose a stern challenge in Dansoman, having fallen into the relegation zone on the last matchday.

Finally in Tamale, bottom-positioned Bolga All Stars must pick full points at the expense of Tema Youth at home to improve their weak chances of keeping their topflight status. The Harbour City Boys, on the other hand, are two spots above the drop zone.
