Masango happy to reunite with Baxter and former Kaizer Chiefs teammates

SuperSport United midfielder Mandla Masango says he is happy to reunite with his former Kaizer Chiefs teammates at Matsatsantsa.

“It feels good to be back,” Masango told The Sowetan.

The likes of Reyaad Pieterse, Tefu Mashamaite, Morgan Gould, Keagan Ritchie, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Kingston Nkhatha in addition to Masango all plied their trade at Amakhosi under the guidance of Stuart Baxter, who is the current SuperSport coach.

“What motivated me was to work with Baxter and my former (Chiefs) colleagues. There are other factors that I won’t talk about,” Masango said.

Baxter believes Masango will thrive at Matsatsantsa given that his two-and-a-half year stay in Europe has made him a mature player now.

“When we were together at Chiefs, Mandla was a promising player. I often thought Mandla was excellent in training but weaker in games, and I thought he needed two or three things in his game that he could rely on,” Baxter said.

“One was his movement and he needed to move to penetrate (the defence). I didn’t want him getting the balls to the feet all the time and I wanted him to make runs behind people.

“There was also the defending and he didn’t feel like it. There was also his decision-making with the ball,” Baxter concluded.

Masango could make his debut at home to Lamontville Golden Arrows in a PSL game on Wednesday evening.
