The Red Devils get ready to welcome a prodigal son back to Old Trafford as Cristiano Ronaldo's Bianconeri visit in the Champions League

Manchester United return to Champions League action on Tuesday when they host Juventus at Old Trafford in Group H.

The game will see the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to his former club, but there will be very little room for niceties as he plots a way to take three points back to Turin.

Victory for the Bianconeri would take them further clear at the top of the group, having already beaten Valencia and Young Boys.

United, who defeated Young Boys before playing out a draw at home to Valencia, could leapfrog the Serie A side with a win.

Match Preview

Jose Mourinho Manchester United 2018-19

In Juventus, Manchester United come up against a team considered to be one of the favourites to win this season's Champions League and they will have to be at their very best to overcome the Serie A champions, but, of course, that is easier said than done.

The acquisition of Ronaldo - who is sometimes affectionately known by his fans as 'Mr Champions League' - during the summer has naturally had a marked effect on the perception of Juve's chances in the competition, but the Portuguese is backed up by a glittering supporting cast, which includes the likes of Paulo Dybala, Miralem Pjanic and Leonardo Bonucci.

"They have a lot to offer and an extra year with the same coach and structure," said United boss Jose Mourinho at the pre-match press conference. "They have won seven titles on the trot and a really special player who makes a real difference [Cristiano Ronaldo].

"They are more than a contender for the Champions League."

That United's season has been fraught with difficulty both on and off the pitch does not help their cause either and, despite appearing to turn things round on the pitch in recent weeks, Mourinho now has a fresh issue to contend with as Sanchez looks to have grown disillusioned at Old Trafford.

The remainder of the somewhat depleted squad will have to band together amid the ongoing undercurrent of negativity as they attempt to deliver a blow to Massimiliano Allegri's men.
