Club manager Pal Dardai throws light on the defender's little action since joining the club in August

Hertha Berlin boss Pal Dardai has shed light on the limited opportunities of summer signing Derrick Luckassen at Olympiastadion.

Since joining the German club from Dutch outfit PSV in August, the 23-year-old has made just one appearance for Die Alte Dame, staying an unused substitute on one other occasions.

His debut came in last month's 4-2 Bundesliga triumph over Borussia Monchengladbach, where he came on only three minutes to full-time.

"Luckassen lacked match fitness when he came to us, you may have noticed that," said, Dardai, as reported by Bz-Berlin

"Now he is getting in better and better shape. He is fast and good for the ball.

"Maybe he's going the way of Dilrosun and playing for the U-23s in top games.

"He is such a motivated player who runs hot when things get hot."

"He works well and gets involved in training."

Luckassen is hoping to be given his first start when Hertha host Freiburg after the international break on Sunday.

"I have not played for a long time and I need as many games as possible to develop myself," the centre-back told the Courier.

"I'm finally feeling fit and ready to help Hertha on the pitch.

"I know what I can do. I am a good player and am now waiting for the opportunity to show this and get more chances."

Born to Ghanaian parents in Amsterdam, Luckassen remains eligible to represent either Ghana or the Netherlands at senior level.
