Liverpool team news: Matip and Lovren fit to start at Leicester

Jurgen Klopp makes seven changes to the first 11 from the cup exit at the King Power Stadium as the Reds look to end a four-game winless run

Liverpool are able to field their strongest pairing in the heart of defence as Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren have overcome knocks to start at Leicester City.

The centre-backs sat out Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat against the same opposition, which saw the Reds crash out of the Carabao Cup.

The former Schalke man nursed tightness in his hamstring from last weekend’s 1-1 home draw with Burnley, while the Croatian had a back issue.

Emre Can

Emre Can, who was also a doubt at the King Power Stadium, starts in midfield with Jurgen Klopp making seven changes to the XI from midweek.

Danny Ward, Ragnar Klavan, Andy Robertson, Jon Flanagan, Marko Grujic, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Dominic Solanke drop out of the first 11.

Simon Mignolet returns in goal with Joe Gomez shifting to right-back and Alberto Moreno returning on the opposite flank.

Philippe Coutinho moves into the front three with Klopp opting for more physicality in midfield and holding Daniel Sturridge in reserve.

Leicester City: Schmeichel, Simpson, Morgan (c), Maguire, Chilwell, Ndidi, King, Albrighton, Mahrez, Okazaki, Vardy.
