FC Cincinnati are hoping to beat Sevilla to the signing of Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez from Atalanta, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The MLS club have made a bid of €6 million (£5.3m/$7.3m) for 32-year-old and are ready to offer him around €10 million (£8.8m/$12m) a year in wages.

However, that bumper offer may not be enough to lure the forward to America as he would prefer to remain in a higher standard of league for now.

Atlanta United are closing in on the signing of midfielder Franco Ibarra from Argentinos Juniors, according to reporter Cesar Luis Merlo.

Atlanta are keen to bring in a defensive midfielder to the club this window and have turned their attentions to the 19-year-old.

Ibarra has made 11 league appearances for Argentinos Juniors since making his debut at the end of 2019.

Roman Torres has left Seattle Sounders to sign a one-year deal with C.S. Cartagines in Costa Rica.

Torres made just three substitute appearances in his second spell at the Sounders since rejoining the club in a trade with Inter Miami in September.

West Brom are considering a bid for Crystal Palace forward Christian Benteke, reports the Express and Star.

Baggies boss Sam Allardyce is keen to add a striker to his squad this month and turned his attentions to the Belgian, who he worked with during his time as manager at Selhurst Park.

Former Leicester City striker Ahmed Musa is also due to train with West Brom this week, while Galatasaray forward Mbaye Diagne is a potential target.

Liverpool are set to beat a host of Premier League rivals to the signing of Derby teenager Kaide Gordon, according to the Telegraph.

Manchester United and Tottenham were also showing an interest in the 16-year-old forward, but it is the Reds who look to have won the race.

Derby do not want see Gordon but are set to reluctantly accept a bid worth more than £1 million ($13.6m).

Papu Gomez is close to leaving Atalanta for Sevilla, Gazzetta dello Sport says.

The 32-year-old has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain and some MLS sides, but a switch to La Liga looks most likely this month.

Kevin Grosskreutz has announced his retirement from professional football.

The former Borussia Dortmund star took to Instagram to confirm his decision in an emotional video.

Grosskreutz, 32, won the World Cup with Germany and two Bundesliga titles with Dortmund. 

Marseille have identified former Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde as the favoured candidate to replace Andre Villas-Boas.

The Portuguese manager could be sacked in the next few days amid the team's bad form and Movistar claims the French side have made their choice but have not started talks.

Spanish giants consider triggering clause to bring defender back

Real Madrid are considering a €45 million bid to bring Sergio Reguilon back from Tottenham.

The 24-year-old left-back left for Spurs last September but the Spanish giants have an option to bring him back within two years.

Sport claims Madrid are considering activating that clause with an offer in the summer.

Jean-Clair Todibo's two-year loan at Benfica has not gone as expected.

The defender has not featured in the league for the club and has been limited to two cup appearances. He could be on the move again soon, however, as Mundo Deportivo reports Lazio want to take him on loan this month.

Porto are ready to make a €10 million (£8.9m/$12m) bid for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard, according to Todofichajes.

Lingard has made just three appearances for the club this season and is keen to secure more first-team football during the second half of the campaign.

A host of clubs are interested in the 28-year-old but have yet to make a firm bid, with Porto hoping to jump to the front of the queue.

AC Milan have rejected a bid from Everton for Rafael Leao, according to Calciomercato.

The Toffees submitted an offer in the region of €30 million (£26m/$36m) for the Portuguese forward as they seek back-up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However the Rossoneri rejected the bid out of hand as it is nowhere near their valuation of the 21-year-old.

Roma are ready to consider offers for striker Edin Dzeko this month, according to Corriere Dello Sport.

Dzeko has reportedly fallen out with boss Paulo Fonseca, who has stripped the Bosnian of the club captaincy.

However, despite the dispute the 34-year-old is happy in the Italian capital and would be reluctant to move, even if the Giallorossi accepted offers for his services.

Mesut Ozil says he will be a "Gunner for life" after leaving Arsenal to join Fenerbahce.

The attacking midfielder's free transfer to the Turkish giants was confirmed on Sunday.

The playmaker says his bond with the north London side is not over just because he has left after almost eight years in the Premier League.

Wolves forward Patrick Cutrone is one of Benevento's top targets in the current window, Sky Sport reports.

The Serie A side want to strengthen their attack and view Cutrone, who recently returned from a loan spell at Fiorentina, and former Inter forward Eder as solid options.

Foot Mercato claims Al Shabab want to take him on loan, but there are other teams in Saudi Arabia showing interest.

Mesut Ozil has signed for Fenerbahce on a free transfer.

The Gunners agreed to terminate the midfielder's £350,000-a-week contract at Emirates Stadium six months early, and he has now completed a move to the club he supported as a boy.

Rafa Benitez won't be returning to Newcastle or taking over at Celtic, Guillem Balague has told BBC Sport.

"Newcastle is not an option for Rafa Benitez under this owner," said Balague. "Change the owner and then maybe.

"Rafa has a huge respect for the fans, the club, the town. And I feel there is a bit of an unfinished business there."

Benitez reportedly has offers on the table from clubs in Germany and a national side.

Fikayo Tomori's loan move from Chelsea to AC Milan has raised a few eyebrows, especially with a £26 million ($36.5m) option to buy included in the deal.

Newcastle could offer Matt Ritchie back to Bournemouth in a swap deal for Phillip Billing, according to the Sun.

Ritchie left Bournemouth for Newcastle in 2016 and the Cherries have long been linked with a move to take him back.

Dalian Professional want to appoint former Barcelona manager Quique Setien as their replacement for Rafa Benitez, reports Marca.

Uruguayan full-back Lucas Olaza is set to return to Boca Juniors this month, reports Ole. 

Olaza, 26, is on loan at Celta until the end of the season, but the Liga side will release him early to avoid meeting a clause that would force them to exercise the defender's purchase option.

Eddie Howe is the front-runner to take over Newcastle United should Steve Bruce lose his job as manager, reports the Sun. 

Bruce is under considerable pressure with the Magpies, who are battling relegation from the Premier League.

Ronald Koeman has said Barcelona need to dip into the transfer market if they are to improve, but is not confident of being given the funds to strengthen his squad.

Barcelona are lagging behind Atletico Madrid in La Liga following a slow start to the campaign. They have improved in recent weeks and are on a run of three wins on the spin in the league.

Those victories over Huesca, Athletic Club and Granada cannot gloss over the fact that Koeman’s squad are lacking strength in depth, which is likely to hit them hard in the race for La Liga and the Champions League.

Manchester United and Liverpool are both keen to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, reports the Mirror. 

Liverpool's chances of landing the star suffered a setback when the club's owners insisted that they could not meet his £38 million ($52m) release clause.

Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that summer signing Donny van de Beek is unhappy at Old Trafford due to his lack of playing time. 

The 23-year-old came over from Ajax in the summer and was tipped to play a major role at Old Trafford, but has found regular minutes hard to come by in his first season in England.

Van de Beek has made 21 total appearances this season but has played just 10 times in the Premier League – only two of which have been starts.
